I’m so glad you’re here! I’m Heather, the Accidental Stay at Home Mom.
You are probably wondering why I have dubbed myself and my blog with this name. The answer is I never thought in a million years that this would be my life. I went to college and got a degree in business (Sales and Marketing), fully expecting to work until retiring in my 50’s or 60’s. For the last 13 years I’ve been living the corporate dream. I loved working, providing for my household and building relationships with clients and colleagues. For the past year or so I was losing the fulfillment I used to get through my corporate career and started to reassess my priorities. That’s when I made the previously unthinkable decision to become a stay at home mom.
When my daughter arrived, priorities shifted and nothing else seemed as important as being with and taking care of her. I will go into our struggle to get pregnant with our rainbow baby in another post, but I think wanting her so bad and her FINALLY arriving helped in my decision as well. In my heart I believe all of the stars aligned to make this happen and this is what I am supposed to be doing right now.
We are now one month in to my new role as full time Mom and so far I am loving it even though it is a pretty big shift. We traveled with my husband on some of his work trips for close to half of the time so it really just feels like I have been on vacation or maternity leave again. When we are home it has been nice to keep up with the housework, cooking more meals than I have in a really long time and building a semi normal schedule. Lately I’ve been filling up our calendar with swim lessons, coffee dates, walks – really anything that gets us out of the house! Any pointers on how you do SAHM life are welcome and much appreciated!
So thank you for following along with this new chapter in my life! Some things you can expect to see on the blog:
Travel: I have been to almost 30 countries with my husband. Before Paige arrived we were avid world travelers. Since Paige was born we have stayed in the states, but she will have been to 8 states and Canada before turning One. We are trying to keep our travel bug alive and well with her in tow, while lugging more suitcases than I care to admit.
Family:Well I have one, so that counts for something! In all seriousness, I am a first time Mom just learning as I go like the rest of you. But I am having fun and feel like I’ve got a pretty decent handle on the mom and wife gigs.
Food: I love to cook and love to eat. And I am pretty darn good at both of them….maybe that’s why some of that baby weight is still here 9 months later?
Fun:This will be a hodgepodge of crafts, tips and tricks, favorite things and whatever else I feel like sharing. Let’s call it my blog’s junk drawer.
Thanks for following along, tell your friends to do the same:)
